Hopefully no OMS members’ cars were victims. Anyone whose vehicle does need repair is also having an inconvenient, head-on collision with a new fact of life of the auto-body-repair business, as noted in this article from the Oregonian. The number of collision-repair shops is decreasing while the need for their service is increasing. This problem has been growing even before the recent, slip-sliddin’ calamity exacerbated it. A critical reason for the decline in the number of body shops, which this article does not mention, is the lack of skilled people to do the increasingly-complex work. It should be a good feeling to OMS members that the Clackamas Community College scholarship we provide is helping people get training in this field and fill a serious need of the community. Instructor Russ Peterson at Clackamas CC gets way more requests for graduates from shop owners than the school can produce.

Urgent Request… https://www.oregonminisociety.com/urgent-request/ Sun, 11 Aug 2013 23:27:13 +0000 https://www.oregonminisociety.com/?p=615 We have been fortunate to have several owners commit cars for our Feature Display at this year’s ABFM. But, we still very much need cars to represent these models:

Austin America/MG 1100 or 1300, or other ADO16 models
Wolseley
Mini set up for rally competition
Neo MINI, first generation

A car for this display need not be in concours condition, but nicely presentable. This means a sound, undamaged body, good paint, neat interior. Unless you want to show off your engine compartment and/or boot, these do not need to be show. The car should be near enough in outward appearance to stock to represent the model as it was originally sold.

If you have a car to fit the bill, please contact Paul Rollins: [email protected]

MMW 2013 Now Has a Theme https://www.oregonminisociety.com/mmw-2013-now-has-a-theme/ Sun, 11 Mar 2012 20:31:18 +0000 https://www.oregonminisociety.com/?p=97 Although our club contest to create a theme for MMW 2013 did not quite achieve our anticipated 1,000,000 entries (we were this |<-->| close), there was a quite respectable number of entries. Most incorporated some reference to the physical location, mentioning “Bend” or “Deschutes”, or more-generally, ” River”. Another general focus was on the na- ture of the area, referring to “Sagebrush”, “High Desert”, “Dust”, or a “cowboy” tie in. A few entries keyed on the number “13” as in Apollo Mission and Friday the __.
At our February club meeting members present voted, in a two-step process, on the entries. The most-popular and ultimately-chosen theme is ” Minis Conquer The Cascades”.

Mini Meet West 2013 Theme Contest https://www.oregonminisociety.com/hello-world-2/ https://www.oregonminisociety.com/hello-world-2/#respond Sat, 04 Feb 2012 10:15:21 +0000 https://www.oregonminisociety.com/?p=1 Wednesday, February 8

Planning is zooming along for OMS’s hosting of MMW 2013. Such a momentous event needs a earth-shaking theme. Remember such past masterpieces such as: MMW 2001 — a Space Odyssey, and MMW 2007 — Live and Let Drive. Since Minis, by their essence, attract the most-creative people, the club is asking all of you to put forward your best ideas for a theme for our next production.

Some basic elements you might consider are:

Location — Edge of the Cascade mountains and high desert, near a very-active river
Year — 2013

If you have some ideas for graphic elements that would be important to your theme, mention them. Also explain any rationale for your theme. Please send your theme proposal to me by February 8, to [email protected].

We will discuss the proposed themes among the members at the February 12, club meeting and pick the winner. Of course, the successful effort will not go unrewarded. There will be a prize for the winner.
